About Us
Northwest Evaluation Center (NWEC) provides state-certified Domestic Violence Intervention Treatment (DVIT) assessments for individuals across the state of Washington, serving the needs of both Family and Criminal Courts. Obtaining a non-biased and fair Domestic Violence Assessment can be challenging. NWEC does not engage in the practice that is motivated by "financial gain" to enroll clients in our DV-group program.
We maintain this policy to avoid what we consider a "conflict of interest" related to "recruiting" clients for ongoing groups for revenue. Our goal is to perform assessments ethically and independently, free from monetary interests, to provide fair evaluations for our clients based on their needs as you have the choice to attend any program that is properly state certified.
We realize the majority of our clients do not come to us voluntarily, though our non-punitive approach is oriented toward working with every individual to satisfy the conditions set forth by the court, resulting in achieving the ultimate goals for our clients.
We do offer supportive groups that qualify under the state law requirements for certified domestic violence treatment. Each session covers a specific topic, encouraging group discussions and fostering understanding about effective communication, domestic violence, and its impact on all parties involved, including children. These topics include, but are not limited to: Anger management, communication skills/styles, conflict resolution, defensive mechanisms, basic human psychology, empathy and forgiveness, navigating the legal system.
In full disclosure for transparency, it has come to the attention of NWEC that an issue was brought to DSHS several years ago, and it was determined that NWEC was required to amend one sentence of an assessment, which was corrected immediately. This did not alter the findings of the assessment, which was supported by DSHS. “Findings” do occur on occasion when a correction is necessary. DSHS oversees all DVIT organizations to ensure standards set forth by the WACs and the State of Washington’s RCWs.
The NWEC approaches all evaluations from a fair and ethical perspective. Regardless of any allegations made against our clients, we will treat you with dignity and respect.
NWEC believes it is essential to openly address any distortions that a publication may issue that mischaracterizes, sensationalizes, or provides information to the public without context.
